Weekend Self-Care Routine feat. Dove

One of my favorite things to do is research simple ways to spruce up my self-care routine. As a millennial living in the City of Boston, you get so used to the hustle and bustle that self-care often takes a back seat. For the past couple of weeks, winter has been knocking on our doors. So much so that I am starting to feel the shift in my skin texture. These colder temps are causing my skin to get a little dry. One way to combat dry skin in the winter is by addressing how hydrating your body cleansers are. Sometimes, the cleansers we use strip us of our natural oils and cause dry skin. Another excellent self-care tip that I didn’t realize was so important is investing in great pillows! Do you ever find yourself tossing and turning because your pillows don’t feel fluffy enough or firm enough? I didn’t realize how much it interfered with a good night’s rest until I started to develop a stiff neck. One of my favorite pillow brands is Cadia Sleep. Something that has been an absolute game-changer for my self-care routine has been committing to 30 mins of physical activity per day. With winter months coming, it’s easy to fall into patterns of stagnation. However, jumping rope for 30 mins has given me the jolt of energy I need. If you’re not into jumping rope, try going for a brisk walk. It makes all the difference, and your body will thank you. If you start to get tired, just say this to yourself: ONLY 30 MINUTES LEFT.

Lastly, after you’ve cleaned your house and made your checklist for the week, nothing beats catching up with your friends. A girl’s night is always my go-to. Working long hours often pulls away from eating correctly and seeing our loved ones. Laughter is a HUGE part of self-care. A great, hearty laugh relieves physical tension and stress. The food? Well, that’s just a bonus! When possible, try to meet with one family member or friend every weekend.

These are small changes that I make to self-care weekend routines, but they’ve proven to affect my holistic well being profoundly. So if you’re looking for a couple of simple things to do, don’t forget:
*Take care of your skin against the cold weather.
*Make sure you are getting lots of quality sleep
*30 mins of activity to keep the body moving 
*Lots of laughter and love with the special people in life
