Summertime Fly Work Apparel

Nothing is more confusing than trying to dress for the scorching while entering a freezer-like work space. I know you’ve been there. Stepping outside in a short sleeve shirt and skirt, only to freeze in an office that has A/C colder than a winter day. Even though the Fall is basically tomorrow, I wanted to sneak in a post for us ladies (and fellas too) showing one way I was able to overcome this dilemma.

Colors-
By choosing colors that are lighter, my fabrics aren’t absorbing so much heat from the sun. The darker the color, the more sun you’ll take in. Why do you think some of the marquee colors for Summer outfits feature high yellows or light blues? Having an outfit that works well in the office but can withstand the heat of summer is GOALS!

To Layer or Not to Layer-
I found a pretty healthy balance to layering in the office. By wearing items that have versatility, such as my hi-low skirt from Fashion to Figure, it gives me the freedom to be professional in the office while giving my legs a little breathing room. This skirt feels just as long as pants but has a lighter feel to it. As a bigger girl; it’s hard wearing different form fitting dresses in the work place. Certain cuts don’t “sit right” or may raise as I walk. But a fit and flare with a hi-lo looks still give me a little bit of leg action and won’t rise in the back.

Another important part of layering is to have a cardigan or piece that will keep you warm when you are in the office. With this outfit, my top for from Fashion to Figure doesn’t is light enough for me to tuck into my skirt…but it’s also reinforced enough to keep me warm. It’s all about finding what works for you. I always keep a white cardigan or bolero behind my chair because I never know what New England weather has in store for me.

Shoes, Shoes, Shoes
To add the “Chardline Touch,” I had to bring out something other than my work flats. Finding a cute sandal that isn’t too loud eliminates the sweaty foot syndrome that I typically get when I am walking home. My sandals from Shoedazzle have been my go-to’s for most of my summer looks. They are a little high, so if you are walking a lot, it may be better to transition into flats.

And for my fellas?
Well you know I am always here for the guys! But, if you find yourself looking for something casual but works in the office, I would suggest taking a look at Bonobos. They have such trendy options for the dapper dresser. Their chinos come in all different colors and styles, which are the perfect pant to wear to the office to meet up with friends after work. Check out this look below–Christian Grey vibes for sure!

You know who’s really good at doing this in real life? The Big Fashion Guy! He makes me want to up my skills everyday!
