Ever since I started the blog, I’ve been intentional about highlighting Breast Cancer Awareness. Whether it was highlighting women who are survivors of breast cancer, speaking about my own experiences with breast cancer in my family, or even supporting my aunt during breast cancer awareness walks, I want to make sure women really understand the importance of mammograms and early intervention. My paternal grandfather and several aunts have died from different cancer mutations so understanding my body and being kept abreast of breast cancer research is a priority in my life. This year, I had the honor of partnering with a brand that has been at the forefront of supporting breast cancer research: Lane Bryant.

Lane Bryant and its intimate apparel brand, Cacique Intimates, will support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) for the third year in a row, by generating donations to help fund lifesaving research. This year, Lane Bryant and Cacique’s BCRF-dedicated theme is Research is the Reason, highlighting the importance of research in the fight against Breast Cancer. Lane Bryant, Cacique, and sister brand Catherines Plus Sizes will continue to support two research initiatives funded by BCRF: a project seeking to identify new therapeutic options for triple-negative and BRCA-driven breast cancers, as well as a project aimed to improve the quality of life of female breast cancer survivors.

One aspect of Lane Bryant’s campaign that I haven’t seen was introducing Mastectomy Bras! My aunt, who is a survivor of breast cancer was elated when I shared the good news. She expressed to me the hardship that many women face when shopping for bras after having a mastectomy.

Some facts on the design of Lane Bryant’s Mastectomy Bra:

The design team at Cacique Intimates worked diligently with The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute to specially design the mastectomy bras the brand will offer:

  • The mastectomy bras were designed with extreme care and medical research
  • While concepting and designing the bra, the team at Cacique wanted to understand the challenges mastectomy patients face when trying to find a bra post-opp
    • The team met with a surgeon, who explained that each breast reconstruction is different, and results can vary
  • It was most important to ensure that they are provided with the utmost support after surgery (and beyond)
    • The Cacique design team also met with a number of mastectomy patients
    • Thrivers emphasized a desire and emotional need to feel pretty and feminine post-opp
  • The mastectomy bras are beautifully designed with a feminine touch, within an industry that often tends to offer mastectomy bras that tend to look more clinical
    •  The design team felt the importance to offer something that did more than just function as mastectomy bra o
  • The NEW mastectomy bras will be available on Cacique.com, and will be offered in sizes 36DD-DDD, 38-44 C-F, 46-50 C-DDD

I’ve never felt such a personal connection to any fashion brand as I do to Lane Bryant right now. Being inclusive to the plus-size community and survivor’s community is very near and dear to me! Thank you for all that you do LB! With that said, me and my mom decided to share some of the looks that we got from the team over at Lane Bryant. My mom is so proud that I continue to use my platform about matters that are important to me. In between each shot, I will share some Breast Cancer Awareness facts that you or may not have known.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide. One in 8 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. Every two minutes a woman in the U.S. is diagnosed with breast cancer.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women. In the U.S. in 2019, there will be an estimated 271,270 new cases of invasive breast cancer diagnosed in women and 2,670 cases diagnosed in men. An estimated 42,260 breast cancer deaths will occur.

But there is hope! There are more than 3.5 million survivors in the U.S. today. Women with early-stage breast cancer have a 99% chance of 5-year survival, $50 donated pays for one hour of research. 50% of BCRF researchers are women!

Lane Bryant and Cacique will offer multiple opportunities for clients to contribute to BCRF:

Donate While You Shop: Through Sunday, November 3, 2019, clients can make a personal donation to BCRF by “rounding up” their purchase at the register in-store (to the nearest dollar or add $2, $5 or $10).

BCRF-Dedicated Collection: Lane Bryant will offer exclusive BCRF-inspired LIVI activewear and Cacique Intimates, as well as jewelry and accessories, where 10% of the purchase price will be contributed to BCRF.
