Tan & Stripes

I was kicked out of The Stars And Stripes twice, and finally got back in. -Mort Walker

How many times have you heard the phrase, “Big girls shouldn’t wear stripes” in everyday conversation?  The last time I wore featuring stripes, someone told me the bigger the stripe, the better–it covers your cellulite. Since then, I’ve made it my personal mission to wear stripes and to add insult to injury, I’m letting my thighs out too! I think these rules are starting to sound like a broken record because a baddie is gonna wear whatever the hell she wants, with out without your consent. So today I thought I should start series of post called, SHOWING YOUR STRIPES. Once a month, I will post a new outfit that includes stripes–each post showing more and more stripes. This month, I’m showing “slight-stripe” by pairing them up with this dope vest from Society+ !  Who knows how much stripe I will show off in June? I am thinking something bathing suit-ey.

When I got this vest from Society +, my mind immediately went for the safe styling option–jeans, graphic tee, and black pumps. But it’s basically 70 degrees out, so why not try something more SUMMER TIME FINE? -cue striped bodycon –

When shopping for basic items like a lightweight bodycon, I typically head to Forever 21 for an affordable option. As I have said in past posts, I’ve gained a lot of weight so if you are a borderline 24, this bodycon may not be the best option. I am a size 22, and this was a perfect fit. Anything bigger, and my cheeks would be hanging out. But if you are anything like me, you will find a way to re-purpose the dress and possibly wear it as a top with a skater skirt.

Although this outfit post is about stripes, this vest really brought this outfit to life! It’s currently on sale so make sure you head over to Society+ and catch that deal! A long vest that can be worn from day to night (I feel a second post coming up) is definitely a summer staple! It comes with a belt and you can actually wear it as a dress if you’d like. With a pop of fringe on both my purse and pumps, I had the perfect striped look. What do you think? How else would you rock your stripes??

For some reason, whenever I wear short sleeve coats/vests and then a cap sleeve it never looks good on me, but you are killing it. I love the colol combo, your hair, and duh your face is just too pretty. Great post hun!

You look very familiar to me. I love the outfit, especially those shoes! I nearly bought a pair like that from steve madden yesterday, but they weren’t comfy for me.

I’m digging that fringe too girl. Let me hold that purse. I’m all about rocking what I like despite what “fashion rules” say.

I think this is a cute look on you! I think the only fashion rule should be make sure it looks good on you! The reality is even those skinny chicks cant wear everything, we have to dress to our body types and comfort levels. The main rule I follow is just cause it is in my size doesnt mean it is for me!

At any rate love what you put together here.
