Yellow Mellow feat. Universal Standard

In Fashion, Personal Style

Nothing brings me more joy than finding clothes that work in the boardroom and transition well for a night on the town. When I first started my job in the Mayor’s Office, I had no idea how I could look professional and be stylish. My outfits were pretty bland, and most days I looked like a bag lady. Fast forward to 2017; some brands are bridging that gap, and I no longer feel like I have to sacrifice my style for the sake of looking “professional.” Also, the times are finally changing. No one is expecting women to dress like militant drones…my colleagues appreciate my pops of color here and there!

Universal Standard is one of the standout brands that cater to the fashion-forward minimalist! With clothing from sizes 10-28, Universal Standard provides high-quality clothing for mid-range prices. For instance, the Geneva Dress comes in five colors and can easily be turned from a cute work dress to a night on the town dress. Depending on the color, you can pair with a blazer, long cardigan, belt, booties, etc.

I styled the Geneva Dress to show the versatility it provides. When belted with Universal Standard’s Obi Belt, it enhances my shape gives it a little sex appeal. This is perfect for a night on the town. When paired with summer brights, it gives my look a low-key look that is appropriate to wear to work. You may even find a new work bae or two—when no one is looking of course!

That 70’s Show- Bell Bottoms and Vests

In Personal Style

Happy Friday! Can you believe it? My long weekend starts now and I’m still trying to get my post done right before me and my best friend leave. But I knew I couldn’t leave without posting something for y’all! So as of late I’ve been really getting into this “look”. I am not sure what you would call it but here are some looks that I loved! I guess we can say it’s a 2016 rendition of the 70’s.

So in my search to curate this look, I knew the perfect place to find each of these items. Forever 21  never fails to have every piece of the puzzle.

Forever 21

From the vest, to the sweater, I found this whole look with ease. Forever 21 is often called the one stop shop of fast fashion because you can find almost anything you need.

Paired with my favorite pair of booties from Rainbows, my hat from Aerie, and bag from H&M, it was done deal! If you couldn’t tell from my past posts, I love to frequent fast fashion places. Not because I’m broke but because they are, at time, the most breathable pieces.

What do you think of the look? Haven’t seen it on much curvy girls! Please tag me if you recreate them! Until,

Valentine’s Day in the City

In Personal Style

Happy Monday!

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, I found some time to take a few flicks of myself before dinner. I’ve always hated the idea of Valentine’s Day, but I am not one to turn down a free meal either. I’m not one of those cynics who claims to hate all holidays but the truth is, I haven’t had someone to celebrate this day with in a while. It’s always been a  Singles Awareness Day  for me. I’m okay with that too. Only holiday I really like to celebrate is Haitian Independence Day!

We really got stuff poppin’ in 1803-1805!

I digress, me and my girls had a very early celebration of love amongst each other (mostly because they already had plans with their significant others and I plan to go NY to seem my favorite Haitian band). Like other holidays, I feel that Valentine’s is one of those days you can overly dress up…just because. Like Halloween, I like to over do it with my apparel…so for dinner, I felt like being the curvy lady (you clearly all don’t remember) from Titanic!

Rarely will you catch me not smiling in my pictures. If you do, it’s because I am feeling myself!

I know the cape thing has been done to death, but I couldn’t resist wearing this cape from Fashion to Figure! It was the perfect read to g with my all black look.

Also, I bought this sheer dress from Rebdolls back in November, but I am happy I actually got around to wearing it. It provides just the right amount of SEXY!  The REBDOLLS “SMOOTH OPERATOR” SLEEVELESS MESH MIDI DRESS is now on sale! Get them while you can!

The fascinator  provided the final touch to my Titanic-like outfit. There are plenty online for 20+ dollars, but try your local thrift shops to see if there’s anything you can find. You may be surprised!

Shapewear Express

In Plus Size Fashion

Happy Hump Day!

As of late, I’ve been exploring with different forms of shape wear. Growing up, I was so anti shape wear. Today, I realize that the proper shape wear can make or break a look that you’re going for.

When Diva Curves reached out tome about reviewing their latest line of shape wear, I was  a little hesitant. But after researching about them and Plus Model Mag; a magazine that has never steered me wrong, I WAS ALL IN!

Different people have different opinions about what the function of shape wear should be. I can go over all of them BUT, my definition is plain and simple: sucks in the gut and smooths out the lumps in my butt. I’ve tried other shape wear in the past but Diva Curves takes the cake for me!

The product I am specifically reviewing is Long Black Compression Garment.

Disclaimer: This is for hardcore shaping. If you are interested in something lighter for all day wear, this isn’t for you. It will make you look smooth and firm in all the right places in your tight cocktail dress, though!

Here’s a before picture wearing a dress from Qristyl Frazier. The dress was slightly loose on me.

When I tried on the shapwear, it must have taken me in about 2 sizes and I was still able to breathe comfortably.

Can you see the difference? It does exactly what I would like shape wear to do: Suck in and Smooth Out!

Here’s what the dress looked like after:

It actually became so big that I had to pin it in the back. Even with the dress being pinned in, there’s still a flawless look. You can’t even see the under garment.

The first two times you wear it, you have to get used to it. But after you’ve worn it a couple of times, it’s a lot easier to wear.

Make sure you check out Diva Curves if you’re looking for extra hold!

Happy Shaping!

Ebony Gala 2.0- GOWNS

In Plus Size Fashion

Happy Hump Day!

As I’ve been tossing back and forth with deciding whether I would be attending the Ebony Gala this year, I thought about how much fun I had last year!

Playing dress up with the girls, 3 rooms of music, and all best and brightest of Boston under roof—> I GUESS THAT’S A WIN WIN!

If you can recall last year’s outfit, I really went against the status quo! I wore my MONIF C Sequin Jumpsuit! It was an eye turner and definitely unique!

Today, I wanted to highlight some places I will be checking out. GIVE AWAY TIME!!! The first person to guess which dress I am getting, will win one item from that specific brand!

So let’s start with where I went last year, MONIF C. Here are three dresses that I’ve mulled over for the past month. I think it’s about that time to stop mulling and start shopping!

Youtheary Khmer– In the beginning, I kept saying to myself,  ” I don’t want to wear a conventional gown. I want to stick out like last year.”  So the first thing that came to my was YK!

Navabi– Navabi is a luxury brand that I’ve recently became acquainted with and I wish I knew about them sooner! (Caution, another overload)
