Mixing Prints: The Basics 101

Plus Size Print Mixing

When you carry the weight of the world’s expectations, you start to realize that everything is limited. Your ability to perform is always the second guessed. Sometimes even your creativity feels stifled because you are afraid of being judged. If you can find time to remove yourself from all of the judgment and expectations, you’ll conclude that the only person who has to answer to is you.

One thing I still get raised eyebrows for is mixing patterns and prints. I am the sucker for complementary and noncomplementary patterns. Many times, I see this choice of style on straight sized bloggers. Meanwhile, I’ve watched how online trolls trash plus size women/bloggers for “looking a hot mess” because they aren’t “playing it safe.” Newsflash–we don’t all share the same comfort zone! With that said, I decided to give share a minor mixing print moment I had on one of those RARE sunny days–I think it was like 55 degrees in the middle of January.

Remember this jacket from Modcloth?  Well, I had to bring it back and pair it with another Modcloth find! Modcloth’s Dusk and Stunner Midi Skirt is a print mixer’s dream! You can use it as a solid or as a print. In this outfit, I used it more like a solid because I wanted to balance out the vibrancy of the velvet jacket and of course my fav leopard pumps! These are sold out, but found some that were equally as versatile at Amazon!!

Come back next Wednesday and I will take the print mixing up a notch!!
Until next time, Char.

  1. I love mixing prints and I love how you did it! When mixing prints I follow my instinct and my mood, because you can pull off everything as long as you are confident with what you’re wearing. Your velvet shirt is divine! Baci, Valeria – Coco et La vie en rose FASHION & BEAUTY

Girl, you look absolutely fabulous! I love mixing prints, especially polka dots, stripes, leopard, etc. I actually work at a retail store and it always baffles me that women are truly afraid to step outside of the box. I’m all about stepping outside of the comfort zone and looking fabulous while doing it!
