As a part two to last week’s posts, I thought it would be fitting for me to open up about how much I value the relationships in my life. As humans, we form lots of relationships. Whether it is with school teachers, gym trainers, financial advisors, family, friends, etc., we place value in all of these relationships because we understand the trust and loyalty that binds us. One relationship that I love to brag about is with my trainer turned best friend, OJ.

OJ epitomizes the definition of a best friend. I do not know a single person who is more present in my life than he is…well after my mom of course. When I first started blogging, he supported my entrepreneurial endeavors. Even if he was the only man submerged in a sea of ladies at my events, he never complained. He merely observed and smiled. Apart from being physically being present in my life, he’s always been the perfect person to mentally balance me out. While I tend to be a paranoid or anxious person, he’s always there to remind me to calm down. And on the flip side, when I complained to him that I couldn’t climb to the top of a mountain, he was right there pushing me along the way…and this isn’t a figure of speech either. He actually helped me climb to the top of two mountains.

Our relationship isn’t complicated or knows many boundaries. I don’t think there’s anything I have a hard time telling him. Our trust and candid talks is what binds us closer. When others started to notice that I gained 100 pounds, they quietly said, “Chardline, you are getting bigger.” But when OJ noticed he said, “Alright when I’ve completed personal training school, I am going to design you a program to help you with your fitness goals…” He never attacks me or makes me feel like I am doing something wrong…unless it’s a roast session. That boy can roast!  Instead, he picks up on certain patterns and behaviors and asks how I am doing.

I can go on and on about my relationship with OJ, but the truth is I am choking up over here. And OJ knows this. I always let him know when I appreciate his friendship. Whether it’s a simple “I love you” or saving him food, we celebrate our relationship in awesome ways! We’ve already traveled from coast to coast; I wonder where life will take us now.

Both OJ and I were discussing how it’s time “grown-up moves” in our lives. While we have our sights on starting our own families and buying homes, we recognized the importance of building relationships with people and institutions that will help us actualize these goals. Being Massachusetts natives, we started looking into Rockland Trust. When I learned about a bank that focuses its mantra on building meaningful relationships with their customers, it didn’t take much for me to want to learn more. Rockland Trust is a bank that offers a wide of banking, investment, and insurance services to people like me.

I never thought I would experience the day where I can compare one of my most meaningful relationships in my life to a bank that can help me actualize my short-term and long-term goals. I value the relationships in my life and I am happy to know that Rockland Trust does the same for its consumers. I’ve banked with other institutions but I’ve never experienced a bank that is committed to helping me be a better Chardline, just like OJ is.
