Plus Size Blogger Wearing Vintage from Voodoo Vixen

A Vintage Look with Voodoo Vixen

In Personal Style

Happy Thursday! Sorry for gap. As of late, I’ve traveled from state to state just to get a taste of each coast has to offer. In between time, I still want to give you a glance of the new items in my closet. Today I want to bring back a brand that I worked with in the past: Voodoo Vixen. When I started blogging, I was a huge admirer of vintage clothing. I would frequent thrift shops at least once a week. Because the sizing in the early 80’s and 90’s was so different from today, it was always hard to shop by section. For example, one of my favorite fit and flare dresses was labeled a size 14 and I was a size 20.

Voodoo Vixen makes this process a little easier. Voodoo Vixen mixes vintage styles of the past with the sizing of today.  The Betsy dress was the first dress to catch my eye in their Vixen Curve Collection. The floral attributes were one thing, but the mesh inserts really took me by surprise. This is one of the present day additions to the dress. I am wearing a size 3x and it was pretty point for sizing. If you have big chest, I would size up when possible. A lot of dresses do not have structure around the top part of my chest. Sometimes that leaves for back fat spillage or side boob/double boob spillage.  The dresses at Voodoo Vixen have lots of structure, just like they were made back in the day! So enough of the talk, here’s me in the Betsy Dress!

Also, if you use code char20, you’ll get 20% off of your entire purchase at Voodoo Vixen! Shop on!

Concourse Hotel

My Stay at Concourse Hotel Los Angeles- A Hyatt Affiliated Hotel

In Travel

Happy Friday!

As I am writing this post while en route to Baltimore for Curves Rocks Weekend, I am reflecting over last week’s trip to Los Angeles. Being that it’s my second time visiting LA, I never realized how many hidden gems there were. I know LA is known for Hollywood, celebrity sightings, and their heavenly beaches, but this time around I chose to stumble upon some places rather than hit the night life.

I decided to stay closer to the airport because last time I went to Los Angeles, I missed my flight due to all that traffic! When looking for a hotel, I need something that’s going to match my aesthetic. Nothing says WORST TRIP EVER than sleeping in a hotel room that feels like a coffin. While I was looking online for newer hotels, I stumbled upon The Concourse Hotel at Los Angeles International Airport – A Hyatt Affiliated Hotel.

Before booking the hotel, I had to take a look at the rooms. I am super into Feng Shui and if the bed is facing the door, unnecessary clutter is present, loud decorum for no reason, and has poor lighting — I won’t book/sleep there. Weird huh? But when you are sleeping in a state that is 3 hours behind, you want to make sure you are catching up on your sleep in the most peaceful atmosphere–plus I am a princess. From the pictures, the room looked amazing. But my rule of thumb is always to expect it to look a little less amazing upon arrival.

I went ahead and booked the room. Upon arrival, I was 4 hours earlier than expected. When I went to check in, I let Kelly, the front desk agent, know I wanted to leave my belongings in the hotel storage and I would be back to check in. She said, hold on, let me see if there is a room available. It in a matter of minutes, we were escorted to our room without having to pay an extra fee. Where else can you check in at 12:15pm?

As soon as I arrived to the room, I was shocked! THE ROOM LOOKED BETTER THAN THE PICTURES! My view of the pool was amazing. And at night, you can see the airport runway light up. The room was beautifully decorated. Not too busy and 4 simple colors: grey, black, white, and yellow. The Concourse Hotel really took my breath away! I felt like I walked into a Crate and Barrel. The bed was firm, the decorations were modern, and the bathroom actually had toothpaste and mouthwash! The bed was so comfortable. Very sturdy and I didn’t feel like I was sinking.

As someone who weighs 315 lbs, my biggest pet peeves when it comes to hotel beds are:

  1. Poorly quality
  2. Poor support
  3. Too bouncy

I really lucked out staying at the Concourse Hotel!

Here are real-time photos of the room:

Happy Hump Day!!

It’s been a while since I did a post on a gown. With red being my power color, today’s selection is the red gown!

My forte is piecing outfits together to create one ensemble. But on the days that call for more elegance and less blah, you can always find a home with GCGme. You may have remembered my past post that gained a lot of popularity on my social channels. So today, I am back at it again with GCGme.

As the seasons change, more formal events start to bloom. One of my favorite events I look forward to is The Lady in Red event, held in Brooklyn. Seeing women of all shapes and sizes wear their best red gown is such a sight. I’ve seen it all. From form-fitting to boho-chic, I never knew a red gown could be so diverse. Since this event is typically held in the summer, I wanted to wear something that was breathable. Last year I made the mistake of wearing a gown that was so heavy, my makeup started to melt off.  Since I wore one of GCGme’s formal maxi dresses to my sister’s wedding, I thought it would be great to try another piece from their collection. The Brenda Short Sleeve Hour Glass Ruffle Gown Maxi Dress was the first dress that caught my eye.

I know I’ve talked about my weight gain in past posts, and since then I’ve tried to wear more clothes, regardless of what my new shape is. This dress actually gives your shape an hourglass figure without having to squeeze your body into it. I love dresses that have mermaid effect to them so this dress was everything to me. Although the dress was pretty straight forward, my statement necklace from Fashion to Figure really brought out the neutrality of the dress.

What are your thoughts? See anything on GCGme’s website that catches your attention?

Comfort and Fitness meet at lucy!

This blog post is part of a paid Megan Media and lucy blogging program. The opinions and ideas expressed here are my own.

One of my biggest pet peeves is wearing ill-fitting active wear. Not all brands are intentional about providing active wear that truly accommodates plus size women. At times, I feel as if they add extra spandex and hope for the best.  Two weeks ago, I was jogging in the park and almost faced an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction. As I was jogging up a hill, my yoga pants started to slowly roll down and I didn’t notice it until they fell past my hips.  Fortunately, due to having the worst luck at finding great active wear for my hips and thighs, I always wear a second pair of shorts under them. And trust me, wearing two of anything doesn’t make for a comfortable workout experience.

Enter: lucy

lucy designs high performance active wear with outstanding fit and style. Whether you’re a yogi like me, or you practice Parkour on the weekends, lucy is intentional about developing quality performance fabrics that feel luxurious and look amazing! lucy is brand that is designed for women and by women.  They offer a high-quality selection of tees, tanks, tunics, leggings, yoga pants and wraps in sizes 1X-3X. When lucy reached out to me about testing out their latest active wear line, my initial thought was “great, another brand that is capitalizing on plus size women.” But honestly, what progress is ever made when you lead with that mentality? I decided to go for it, and lucy sent over materials to pick out an outfit. I couldn’t be happier with the decision I made.

When choosing my outfit, I used lucy’s “Fit Finder.” Their Fit Finder accurately assesses the type of fit, fabric, and comfort level you desire for your active wear.

My immediate reaction upon receiving my items was pretty intense. I was amazed by the quality of their Studio Hatha Capri Legging. This legging in particular has the following features:

  • Smooth, wide waistband
  • Internal waistband pocket
  • Chafe-free flat lock seams
  • Tight fit
  • 19.5″ Inseam
  • lucy powermax™ is compressive, moisture-wicking, breathable, and four-way stretch

My top, the Workout Tee, was not only breathable, but also was so soft and comfortable.  Even though everything looked great on the outside, I knew I had to put them to the test.On Saturday, I worked out with my trainer. I took our session as an opportunity to put lucy’s active wear to the test. Not only did my Studio Hatha Capri Legging provide lots of comfort, they did not roll down once. The stretch was amazing and my leggings maintained their original shape even after taking them off at the end of my workout session.

After running for about 30 mins, I expected to see sweat marks all over the neckline of my workout tee. By the end of my workout, I didn’t have a single sweat mark! lucy receives my highest rating for plus size active wear, something that can sometimes be hard to find. I am so happy to see a brand that not only designs on trend active wear, but is also very intentional in delivering quality active wear for plus size women.

Here are a few shots from my training session!

Figuring Out My Flow with Foxcroft

In Personal Style

Ever have a hard time deciding what your flow?  Most days I would prefer sweats and a bra, but other days you really have to figure what will suit you best. A brand that I’ve found to bridge the gap between fancy and causal is Foxcroft. “Foxcroft offers a full range of fashions designed in New York City to meet the needs of the modern woman.”

I first discovered Foxcroft when I caught my blogger boo, Chante of Everything Curvy and Chic, rocking three looks in Jan 2015. Today, Foxcroft still provides clothing that looks amazing for different style preferences. When the team over at Foxcroft reached out to me to collaborate on this post, I couldn’t wait to put an outfit together. After all, any chance I get to play dress up, I am all in!

So let’s talk about quality. It’s amazing. Both both my top and bottom have already gone through two washes and neither of them look faded. Also, the fabric of their items aren’t your everyday cheap spandex. The top I chose, Sleeveless Block Print Plus Blouse,  was light but didn’t feel exposed either. I can appreciate that because sometimes you want a flowy look and feel but you don’t want to show your back rolls in the process.

Their Slimming Pull-On Plus Jean is THE BUSINESS! The waistband at the top offers built-in control for a smooth silhouette. I know how much we hate those jeans that cut into our stomach. I guess you can compare these to maternity pants, but when you see my pictures, you’ll see the different between these jeans and my past jeans! My weight was not only compressed in, but I didn’t feel like I was squeezing myself into a pair of jeans–instead the jeans are working with me.

So here’s my look that bridges the gap between casual and fancy!! What do you think? Plus Size Blogger Wearing Foxcroft Posting Fox 1 Plus Size Blogger Wearing Foxcroft Plus Size Blogger Wearing Foxcroft
